Lenin in Kremlin is a painting by Nikolai Nikolaevich Baskakov ((ロシア語:Никола′й Никола′евич Баска′ков), 1918–1993), where he depicts Vladimir Lenin in his office in Kremlin, after a moving of the Soviet government from Petrograd to Moscow.〔''Справочник членов Ленинградской организации Союза художников РСФСР.'' Over the years, Baskakov turned to the image of Lenin. First of all he wanted to create image of the man who took upon himself the enormous responsibility for the fate of the country in dramatic moments in her history. In 1956 Baskakov created the painting "Lenin in the Gorki",〔''Изобразительное искусство Ленинграда. Каталог выставки.'' Л., Художник РСФСР, 1976. С.14.〕 where Lenin was depicted sitting in a chair on a summer day in the garden. The same approach is seen in his large genre painting "Lenin in Kremlin" of 1960.
Event depicted in the painting "Lenin in the Kremlin" related to the second half of 1921. The artist in details reproduces situation of the working office of Lenin in the Kremlin. Idea of painting is typical for the time of "thaw" the turn of 1950-60's. Event shown in the picture likely related to the second half of 1921. Nikolai Baskakov would like to show Lenin as a statesman at the time of daily work, when to the fore the problem of economic and cultural development. Lenin thinks about the future of the young Soviet state, the younger generation, for whom the revolution has opened up new opportunities. Nikolai Baskakov embodied them in the image of the girl, the daughter of one of the officers of the government, which draws in Lenin's office.
In 2007 the painting "Lenin in the Kremlin" was reproduced and described among 350 art works by Leningrad artists in the book «Unknown Socialist Realism. The Leningrad School»,〔''Sergei V. Ivanov. Unknown Socialist Realism. The Leningrad School.'' Saint Petersburg, NP-Print Edition, 2007. P.50.〕 published in Russian and English.
